Kakaa Denka

Since the town of Kiryu Shinmachi was formed in 1591, this district has been a center of the textile industry and supported the economic development in Kiryu. The textile industry in Kiryu achieved the height of its prosperity from the Taisho Period to the early Showa Period and there stood many store buildings of the textile industry, including those of brokers, thread merchants, kimono fabric dealers and dye goods traders, in the streets of Kiryu Shinmachi at that time.
There remain merchant houses, textile factories, boarding houses and sento (public bathhouses), reminding us of the lifestyle of female workers.

  The free bus service “MAYU” is available (only on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays), taking a route from Kiryu Station around the preservation districts for groups of traditional buildings
